Dr Turki Faisal Al Rasheed attended the Gulf Research Meeting, Cambridge, Gala Opening and Dinner

Dr Turki Faisal Al Rasheed attended the opening ceremony for the 4th Annual Gulf Research Meeting at the University of Cambridge, UK on 2nd July 2013 at 4:00 pm in the West Road Concert Hall Main Auditorium, which was followed by a group photograph, reception and Gala Dinner.

The GRM’s objective remains to further build and extend the bridge of scholarly and academic excellence, and to promote continued exchange of ideas among scholars working on this critical part of the world. The persistence of events that continue to impact the Gulf region as well as the entire Middle East emphasises the urgency and absolute necessity for a proper understanding of the issues in order that they may be effectively addressed.

The Gala opening and dinner was attended by over 500 attendees composed of decision makers, business people, international scholars, specialists, policy practitioners, students, academics, government and private institutions, workshop directors, and workshop participants, who gathered in great numbers to advance the field of Gulf studies and, with their work and expertise, to contribute to the further development of the field.

The Gulf Research Meeting 2013 has been divided into 11 workshops which will be managed by the workshop directors and presented by the selected participants whose papers were selected from a total 45 submissions.

Dr Al Rasheed, a Visiting Research Fellow from Liverpool John Moores University, will be directing workshop 7 entitled “Sustainable Development Challenges in the GCC”, sponsored by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), together with his LJMU colleagues Professor David Bryde and Dr Yusra Mouzughi as workshop directors.
